Muscle and Joint Health

Posted

For the love of muscles and joints I Hope You Dance.

Did you know improving muscle tone and joint mobility doesn't have to mean revamping your entire lifestyle? Sometimes all it takes is a few minor tweaks like eating more oranges and dancing around the house to your favorite artists.

Admit it, you love to watch other people dance. Competitive dance shows like So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars are dominating the world of reality television. What you may not realize, however, is that if you get off your couch and dance yourself, you can keep your muscles and joints healthy. Studies show that dancing can help you trim down, improve circulation, reduce stress, and yes, work those joints.

Your joints are built to withstand incredible forces, like the Tango. Within each is a capsule filled with synovial fluid that cushions and nourishes your cartilage. It's your cartilage that allows bones to pass over and across each other. A poor diet and a lack of exercise can cause cartilage cells to break apart, clog up the synovial fluid, and bring on an inflammatory reaction resulting in pain. Fortunately, you can boost joint health by adding these 4 foods to your diet. Kefir, Salmon, Oranges and Turmeric.

Dancing is especially good for the muscles in your legs and glutes. It also works your hips, your lower back and your abdomen. Some forms of dancing can tone flabby arms and the upper body. As muscle tone improves and flexibility increases, you will find your joints have more flexibility.

And if you’re thinking all that twisting and turning would only aggravate your joints, that won’t be the case if you pace yourself and don’t try to overdo it the first time you Cha Cha Cha. Remember, for the love of  muscle and joint health I hope you dance.
